Specialising in professional reflective practice for healthcare and emergency services personnel
A LISTENING EAR
For people working in healthcare and emergency services, a fast-paced and often traumatic environment means shifting our personal needs to the side. It is not surprising that mental clutter, frustrations, and distorted assumptions accumulate, often without us even realising it.
Professional supervision and debriefing are modes of practice that use evidence-based frameworks to defuse, reframe, and recalibrate our perceptions of the world, ourselves, and others.
Sometimes all we need is the right listening ear.
Professional supervision is an ongoing conversation designed to help you offload and explore your feelings, experiences, and decisions around work-related issues. It involves regular meetings with an independent person with skills, knowledge, and training to help you to reflect on your work practice with a goal towards improvement. It is a confidential and non-judgemental relationship that happens outside of the workplace.
Sessions are fundamentally client-led. That means you choose the topics and directions we explore. I provide you with a safe space to offload and engage with a facilitated reflective process about work-related issues. For instance, sessions might include conversations around professional identity, professional development, workplace conflict, values and ethics, patterns of behaviour, coping and burnout, as well as exploring and interpreting specific events. Using a shared frame of reference and a selection of evidence-based models, I offer support, confidentiality, and perspective - plus a chance to engage in pet therapy with local companion animals.
I'm an intensive care paramedic with over 15 years' experience working in prehospital emergency medicine. I have a post-graduate qualification in professional supervision and a Master's degree in paramedic mental health and coping strategies. I am also a peer-reviewed published author and an advocate for pet therapy approaches. I divide my time between operational shifts and support sessions with clients.
I live on the beautiful Kapiti Coast with my partner of over 20 years, Zara, and our furry family.
